Best Bone Broth Powder UK: The Complete Buying Guide
Everything you need to know about bone broth powder in the UK: what it is, how to use it, powder vs liquid vs stock cubes, what to check on the label, and which one to choose.

In this guide
Bone broth used to mean a pot on the hob all day. Now it’s a spoonful and 30 seconds. But with powders, jars, cartons and cubes all calling themselves bone broth, which one is actually worth buying?
The quick answer
- Bone broth powder is real broth with the water taken out.
- A good one is mostly protein, with a short ingredient list.
- Check protein per spoon, ingredients and price per serving before you buy.
- Neutral for coffee and smoothies, seasoned for sipping and cooking.
What is bone broth powder?
Real bone broth, gently dried into a fine powder. Add hot water and it’s broth again. Add it to food and it quietly boosts the protein.
Bones slow-simmered for up to 16 hours
The broth is gently dried into powder
One spoon in hot water, coffee or food
Why people use it
Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass. And because it’s savoury, not sweet, it goes into real meals, not just shakes.
Protein in 10g: bone broth powder vs everyday snacks
Gram for gram, our powder has around three to four times the protein of cheese or chicken, and about twenty times that of liquid broth.
Powder vs liquid vs stock cubes
| Bone broth powder | Liquid broth | Stock cubes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Made from | Real bones | Real bones | Mostly salt + flavourings |
| Protein | High | Good, but mostly water | Very little |
| Keeps | Months, in the cupboard | Days, once opened | Months |

Mug for mug: Pure Beef vs liquid broth

| First ingredient | Beef bone broth (99.8%) | Water |

| Added salt | None | 0.6g to 0.9g per 100g |
| Protein per serving | 9.6g per spoon | About 6g to 8g per mug |
| Cost per serving | About 83p | About £1.17 to £2.33 |
Mug for mug, powder gives you more protein for less money, and its first ingredient isn’t water. More in Is bone broth powder as good as homemade or liquid?
What to look for when you buy
Turn the pouch over and check these eight things.
The quickest quality check, and the only fair way to compare. Low protein means something else is filling the pouch.
Watch for maltodextrin, added sugar, yeast extract, gums and anti-caking agents.
Ideally British, from farms that look after their animals.
Some products are collagen powder with broth flavouring.
Long simmering draws out more. Ask if every batch is tested. Ours are, for heavy metals and microbiology.
Unseasoned broths give you control. Check the label if you’re watching your salt.
Neutral for coffee and smoothies. Seasoned for sipping and cooking.
Divide the price by the servings. Ours is about 83p, less when you mix and match.
The serving-size trick
Big numbers on the front of a pack are usually per serving. Many bone broths and protein shakes use a 30g to 35g serving, which is three to four tablespoons. Their protein and collagen look higher, but you’re simply getting a bigger scoop.
That’s about 5.7g per 10g
96g per 100g
If we used a 35g serving, our front label could say 33.6g of protein. We don’t, because it isn’t a fair comparison. Our serving is one tablespoon (10g), and we show per 100g too, as UK labelling requires. So you can compare us with anything, fairly. Always divide by the serving size before you decide.
Spot the difference
Two made-up powders, side by side. Both say “bone broth” on the front.
Maltodextrin, beef bone broth powder (30%), salt, yeast extract, cornflour, flavouring, anti-caking agent
2.8g protein per 10g
Beef bone broth (99.8%), sunflower lecithin
9.6g protein per 10g
At the same price, you’d pay over three times more per gram of broth in A. Powder B is ours.
Phrases worth a second look
- “With bone broth” or “bone broth flavour”: “with” can mean a little. Check the percentage.
- “High in protein” on a tiny serving: true per 100g, modest per mug.
- “Collagen” in big letters: look for a number in mg per serving.
- “Natural flavourings”: fine, but why does simmered bone need flavour added?

Frequently asked questions
Is bone broth powder good for you?
It’s an easy way to add protein, and it’s naturally rich in collagen. Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass and normal bones.
Does bone broth powder contain collagen?
Yes. Pure Beef has 8,500mg per tablespoon.
How much should I have a day?
One to two tablespoons is a good start. See How much bone broth a day?
Can I drink it every day?
Yes. Plenty of people have a mug, or a spoon in their coffee, every day.
Is it good for weight loss?
It’s high in protein and low in calories, so it makes a filling savoury swap for snacks. A spoon of Pure Beef is 41 calories.
Is it keto, paleo and gluten-free?
All four of ours are keto, paleo, FODMAP-friendly and free from the 14 major allergens.
How long does it last?
Months, sealed in a cool, dry cupboard. See How long does bone broth powder last?
Is it better than a regular protein shake?
Many regular protein shakes are sweet and full of flavourings, sweeteners and thickeners. Bone broth powder is savoury, goes into real food, and ours has no fillers.
Can dogs have it?
Not the seasoned human ones. We make bone broth for dogs and cats separately, with added prebiotic fibre.
Is bone broth the same as stock?
They overlap. Bone broth is usually simmered for longer, and stock cubes are mostly salt and flavourings.
Why does Pure Beef contain sunflower lecithin?
It helps the powder mix without clumping. It’s just 0.2% of the pouch.
Are your broths organic?
No. Organic is a paid certification that not every small farm can carry. Our beef is grass-fed and pasture-raised, our chicken is free-range, nothing is added to bulk it out, and every batch is tested.
Where is yours made?
In small batches in Devon, from grass-fed British beef and free-range British chicken. Every batch is tested for heavy metals and microbiology.
The bottom line
Good bone broth powder is mostly protein, made from real slow-simmered bones, with nothing you don’t need. Mix and match any pouches and save up to 15%.
