Our roots

Our ancestors knew something we forgot.

For thousands of years, humans nourished their bodies with what earth provided; slow-simmered bones, roots pulled from the ground, plants that worked long before anyone put them in a capsule. The chronic conditions that define modern life; inflammatory gut disease, degenerating joints, metabolic dysfunction were largely absent, not by accident.

Somewhere along the way, modern life replaced that foundation with shortcuts. Processed foods stripped out the nutrients. Supplements arrived to fill the gap, but most of them just chased symptoms. A sleeping pill for insomnia. A painkiller for inflmmation. A band-aid on a broken system.

We started Honest + Good because we asked a different question: why are our bodies struggling at the first place?

The answer kept pointing us back. Back to our roots. Back to the ingredients have used for thousands of years, made with the best sourcing we can find, in small batches in Devon.

Clean label isn't a marketing term for us. It's a promise. If you can't pronounce it, it's not in there.

Our ancestors knew. We remembered.

Frequently asked questions

How are your broths made?

Our broth is slow-cooked from meaty bones for about 12-16 hours. It then goes through a dehydration process to turn into a concentrated broth powder (spray-dried). We don't add any form of additives or seasoning so it makes it FODMAP-friendly. So feel free to add your own seasoning, i.e.: salt and pepper or whatever you fancy.

How is your broth different to collagen supplements or powders?

Great question, and one that gets to the heart of why we make broth rather than synthetic collagen. Most collagen supplements are hydrolysed collagen peptides; isolated, processed, and stripped of the surrounding food matrix.

Our broth contains collagen in its natural food form, alongside the gelatine,
glycosaminoglycans, minerals, amino acids, and lipids that occur alongside it in real bone. Your body evolved to receive nutrition in this complex, whole-food matrix, not as isolated compounds. There's growing evidence that whole-food nutrition is absorbed and utilised differently to isolated supplements.

We're not against collagen supplements, some are excellent. But broth is the
original, and for gut healing in particular, the gelatine and glycine in real broth do things isolated collagen peptides simply don't.
I've heard a lot about bone broth lately. Is it actually backed by science or is it just a trend?
Both the tradition and the science are real. Bone broth has been used in virtually every food culture on earth for thousands of years; Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, European cooking traditions, South American cuisine.

That kind of convergence across independent cultures suggests something real was being observed. The science is catching up. Collagen peptides from broth have been studied for joint health, skin elasticity, and gut integrity. Glycine, one of the most abundant amino acids in bone broth, has clinical evidence for liver support, sleep quality, and gut barrier function. Gelatine has decades of research in gut healing protocols.

Is it a magic cure-all? No. But it's one of the most nutrient-dense, bioavailable,
whole-food supplements that exists and it's been quietly doing its job since
long before supplement brands existed.

Why does it help with gut health specifically?

The gut lining is a single layer of epithelial cells that separates your digestive
contents from your bloodstream. When this barrier becomes compromised through stress, poor diet, antibiotics, alcohol, or illness, it becomes more
permeable than it should be. This is sometimes called leaky gut.

Gelatine, which is released in significant quantities during bone simmering
directly coats and supports this gut lining. Glycine supports the mucous layer that protects it. Collagen provides the structural material that maintains tight junctions between the cells.

This isn't a temporary fix. Used consistently, bone broth provides the raw
materials your gut uses to repair and maintain itself. It addresses the structural root, not just the symptoms.
How long does it actually take to notice a difference?
This varies significantly between people depending on your starting point, your overall diet, and what you're hoping to address. That said, here's a realistic guide:

– 2–3 weeks: Many people notice improved digestive comfort, less bloating,
more regular bowel movements, less post-meal discomfort.

– 4–6 weeks: Skin changes often become visible around this point improved
hydration, reduced dryness, a subtle improvement in texture and tone.

– 6–8 weeks: Joint comfort improvements tend to emerge in this window,
morning stiffness reducing, less discomfort after exercise.

– 3+ months: The deeper structural changes, gut lining integrity, sustained
collagen replenishment, immune function, build over longer periods of
consistent use.

The most important thing is consistency. Bone broth isn't a quick fix, it's a
foundation. Daily use over months is where the meaningful changes happen.
Where do you source your beef or chicken bones from?
We source from small independent farms here in UK 🇬🇧! And we’re proud of it!
Are your broths grass-fed, free-range, non-GMO or organic?
Our beef broth is grass-fed and our chicken broths are free-range. But they are not certified organic. This is because we work with small, independent farms for whom organic certification can prove costly. We do, however, ensure that all our suppliers have met the stringent criteria required to carry a non-GMO certification, which includes (but is not restricted to) Seed supply, Farming/Trading practices, and Processing.
Are you products gluten-free?
Yes, not only that! We’re also 14-allergen free and we do not use preservatives, MSG, or any kind of rubbish 😉
Are you broths antibiotic free?
Yes, and steroid and hormone free. Basically, no BS!
Can I take your broth when I’m pregnant?
Yes, you can. We have plenty of customers who have been taking our broth throughout their pregnancies. It’s just like good old homecooked broth minus the hassle (:
Can my toddler drink your broth?
Yes, of course. We have customers who have been secretly adding our beef broth into smoothies for their kids. The best part? They can’t tell the difference ( :
How best to take your broth?
With our beef broth, feel free to add it into sweet and savoury recipes i.e.: coffee, smoothies, latte, omelettes, banana bread, cookies etc.

We recommend you add our chicken broth into savoury dishes i.e.: stews, soups, ramen, scrambled eggs, curries, gravies etc. You can also drink it by adding 1 tablespoon of our chicken broth into 250ml hot water and add a dash of salt.

*Note: Due to the potency of our chicken broth, it has a distinctive natural chicken essence flavour. If you find this too strong, please add it to cooking dishes.

With our Chicken + Veg broth, just add 1 tablespoon into 250-300ml of hot water! Add seasoning if required but we reckon you wouldn’t have to. It’s lovely as it is (:
Why is your magnesium glycinate 750mg per capsule, when the daily recommended magnesium is between 200-400mg?
The entire compound of magnesium glycinate per capsule is 750mg (meaning the combo of magnesium and glycinate), within that the amount of pure magnesium (or elemental magnesium) is 150mg per capsule -this is stated on our product page and on our product label.

As advised by NHS, the daily recommendation for elemental/pure magnesium should be about 300mg a day. Meaning you could take 2 capsules per day to obtain 300mg of pure magnesium.

Magnesium supplements are usually bound with another component such as amino acid for bio-availability (to make it easier for our body to absorb). In this case, our magnesium is bound with the amino acid, glycinate. Therefore, it's called Magnesium Glycinate.
Can I give my cats, dogs or even ferrets your broths?
Yes, of course. We’ve made a Chicken Broth + Prebiotic, especially for pets!  The best part? We only use high-quality human-grade ingredients instead of animal-fed.

In fact, we sprinkle a bit of our broth into our pup’s food daily- to ensure strong and healthy joints. You can also dilute it in hot water, let it cool then feed it to your pets.

☀️Summer Tip:

Try diluting our Honest + Good Pets Chicken broth + Prebiotic and freezing it into ice cubes and give them to your cats and dogs as treats. It’s not only nutritious but it also helps keep them entertained.

 🐶 Pet Digestion Issues Remedy 😼 :

At the first sign of diarrhea, stop feeding your pet snacks or pet food. Restrict their diet to bland foods such as boiled rice or mashed sweet potatoes. If your pet is dehydrated and refuses to drink water try adding 0.5-1 tablespoon of our broth into 80ml of hot water. Allow it to cool before serving.

Or you could also add our broth to their boiled rice and mashed sweet potatoes. The broth gives your furry friend the nutrients their body needs, the prebiotic helps support their gut health and the mashed sweet potato helps to further solidify their poop. They’ll soon be back to normal in no time.

How much serving should I give to my cat or dog?
Here’s a quick reference for your pet's serving size:

<10 KG: 1/2 tbsp

10-25 KG: 1 tbsp

25KG+ : 1.5 tbsp

Our Pet Broth pouch should give you up to 50 servings!

However, if your pets have any pre-existing medical conditions, we would advise you to check with your vet before introducing any new supplements to their diet 🐾

Enjoy!
