High-Protein Savoury Snacks That Aren't Another Protein Bar
If you're tired of protein bars that taste like birthday cake, these savoury snacks are for you. Twelve easy ideas, with the protein worked out for you.

In this guide
Somewhere along the way, protein snacks became desserts. Cookie dough bars. Salted caramel shakes. Birthday cake flavour, for some reason.
If you’d rather have something savoury, the options can feel thin. You end up with another handful of crisps, or another chicken breast eaten standing at the fridge. Here are twelve better ideas.
Why savoury?
Ask yourself what you actually fancy at 4pm. For a lot of people, it’s not something sweet. It’s something warm, salty and satisfying. Savoury snacks also tend to come with far less sugar than the average protein bar, which can carry more than you’d expect.
Twelve high-protein savoury snacks
Protein figures are approximate, per typical portion.
Ready in under a minute
- A mug of bone broth. One tablespoon of Pure Beef in hot water: 9.6g of protein, a few seconds’ effort, and no washing up beyond the mug.
- A boiled egg or two. Around 7g of protein per egg. Boil a batch on Sunday for the week.
- Cottage cheese on oatcakes. Top with black pepper and sliced tomato.
- A handful of almonds. About 6g of protein per 30g handful.
- Cheddar and an apple. A 30g piece of cheddar gives you around 7.5g of protein.
Worth five minutes
- Edamame with sea salt and chilli. Straight from the freezer to the microwave.
- Tuna on rice cakes. Half a tin of tuna gives you roughly 12g of protein.
- Hummus with vegetable sticks. Add a sprinkle of toasted seeds.
- Greek yoghurt, made savoury. Stir in cucumber, garlic, olive oil and mint for a quick tzatziki dip.
Make ahead
- Roasted chickpeas. Toss in oil, smoked paprika and a little broth powder, then roast until crunchy.
- Mini frittata muffins. Eggs, spinach and feta baked in a muffin tin. Add a spoonful of Pure Beef to the mix for extra protein.
- Broth popcorn. Butter plus a sprinkle of Beef Marrow. Indulgent, savoury and a far better film-night snack than most.
Snacks that taste of comfort
There’s a reason a warm mug works so well in the afternoon. It’s something to hold, something to sip slowly, and it feels like a pause rather than a raid on the snack drawer. Swapping a packet of crisps or instant noodles for a mug of Beef Marrow or Chicken + Veg is one of the easiest switches you can make.
Protein at the right moments
The trick with protein is getting it in at the right moments, especially earlier in the day, and from foods you actually enjoy. Snacks like these fill the gaps between meals, so your protein isn’t all left until dinner.
